Nixvis LTD/ PonyoSquid Founder
In her final years of university Paula was inspired by a skiing accident to create a brand (PonyoSquid Ski Apparel) where she began a crusade to retire black ski apparel.
“In 2013 I was in a skiing accident which inspired the concept of visual safety products, if I had not worn bright colours I may not have been spotted as quickly and could have caused further injury. This is a common occurrence for many sports however, black or dark apparel is still commonly purchased due to low price.”
Upon graduation Paula exhibited PonyoSquid Ski apparel technology and visual concepts at New Designers London 2014 which gain international acclaims such at; Top 5 New Designers 2014, ‘Coolest’ Designer in Scotland, rate in Top 10 Upcoming Sportwear Designers and also several news articles. The brand then went on to win a Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas Award, Hot 48 UK Entrepreneurs, Nacue Awards Finalist, Young Entrepreneur Finalist and Sports Innovation Challenge Top 10.
PonyoSquid Ski Apparel was launched via sponsored video campaigns, trade shows and event participation including; Ski & Snow North 2013, Manchester Outbound Skiing and Snowboarding convention 2013 and featured at Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 gaining sponsors and support from several Scottish Ski Resorts.
“The brand was entirely by accident! PonyoSquid was a fiction created for my business module dissertation which soon became a completely unexpected reality”
In 2015 the brand ceased trading for rebrand for a more professional outcome and Nixvis was born;
“The name PonyoSquid was never meant to be permanent and I really needed to step away from the student brand into my future”.
Nixvis took part in the Cultural Enterprise Scotland program Starter for 6 program and secured further grant funding and support for research and development stages. As of 2016 Paula is an Enterprise Fellow at the Royal Society of Edinburgh preparing for brand and technology launch forecast 2017.
